It is with heartfelt sympathy, that we announce the passing of Mr. Perry Holmes Irby, Jr., formerly of Gadsden, AL, who transitioned on Monday, June 17, 2024, at the age of 77. We ask that you keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.
Perry Holmes Irby Jr., referred to as “P” by his siblings, was born in Selma, Alabama, on June 14, 1947, to Perry and Maple Lee Irby. He was the second of eight children.
His parents, and two brothers, Robert Lee and John Daniel, “JD”, preceded him in death.
Perry's family moved a lot during his childhood and quite a bit between Selma, Atalla, Gadsden, and Birmingham. Therefore, Perry attended several schools including Cain Elementary, West Gadsden, and Carver High. Before moving to Michigan at age 17, he created fond memories with his family and enjoyed special times with his best friends. He was known for his peculiar sense of humor and hilarious pranks.
In Michigan, he had brief employment stents before settling into his role as an assembly line worker at Chrysler. He committed himself as a diligent employee with Chrysler for over 30 years and proudly retired in 2010.
He was known for his stylish dress, love for music, love for his mother, and his good work ethic.
Perry is survived by his beloved children, including JeJuan, “Cat” Smith- Michigan, and Muammar “Champ” Burden- Michigan, grandchildren, siblings, Julia M. (Richard) Pearsall, South Carolina, Shirley (Robert) Glasby, Alabama, Miller (Jesseie) Whiteside, Alabama, Doris Irby-Williams, South Carolina, Benjamin (Joyce) Irby, Alabama, as well as a host of nieces and nephews.
