With heartfelt sympathy, we announce the earthly transition of Rickey Hughes of Gadsden, Turkeytown Community, who traded time for eternity on Friday, July 7, 2023, at the age of 68.
Mr. Rickey Hughes was born on August 12, 1954, to Betty Hughes and the late Frank Jelks in Gadsden (Turkeytown), AL.
Rickey joined Mt. Zion Baptist Church at an early age under the leadership of Pastor Edward Pace. He later joined and served at Macedonia Baptist Church and Galilee Baptist Church for several years before returning to his home church Mt. Zion Baptist Church where he served faithfully as a Deacon until his passing.
Rickey attended Gaston High School and was a graduate of the class of 1973. One of his greatest accomplishments was his athletic skills in baseball which awarded him the opportunity of being drafted right out of high school to play with the Montreal Expos Baseball Team.
Rickey married his high school sweetheart Karen Charlotte Diane Johnson and to that union, they had two children.
Rickey lived a full life where he enjoyed fishing, helping his friends and family work on home projects, spending time with his daughter and grandson, and attending church. But his greatest joy was watching and attending sporting events played by his grandson. Rickey was one of his biggest fans.
