With heartfelt sympathy, we announce the passing of Ruby Lee Porter Blount of Gadsden, AL, who transitioned on Saturday, January 18, 2025, at the age of 89. We ask that you keep her family in your thoughts and prayers during this time.
Sis. Ruby Porter Blount was born on August 20, 1935, in Anniston, Alabama to the union of the late Warren and Nettie Porter.
She confessed Christ at an early age and united with the New Hope CME Church in Bynum, Alabama. After moving to Attalla, Alabama she united with the Mount Calvary Baptist Church.
She was a graduate of Norris High School class of 1953, where she played basketball and was a member of y-teens, she graduated from Alabama A & M College where she received her degree in nursing. Ruby worked for over 20 years as a registered nurse at the Tuberculosis Hospital in Gadsden, Alabama, which is now known as Mt. View Hospital.
God's angel of mercy came softly and took her home Saturday, January 18, 2025. She was preceded in death by her husband, John Blount; daughter, Sherri Williams; and her brother, Willie Arthur Porter.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories her daughter, Mrs. Deborah (Vince) Haynes, Burridge, IL; son, Michael Miller, Tacoma, Washington; four grandchildren, Roddrick Porter , Darrell Williams, Orlando Williams, and Priscilla Williams; two great-grandchildren, Tasmon Payne-Williams, India Scissum; two great-great-grandchildren, Kwa, and Jaden; sister, Mrs. Frances (Bobby) Mack, Gadsden, Alabama, and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives and many dear friends.
