Sylvia Hunter Obituary

With heartfelt sympathy, we announce the earthly transition of Sylvia Annette Barnes Hunter of Delta, who traded time for eternity on Wednesday, November 27, 2024 at the age of 67.

Sylvia Annette Barnes Hunter was born on February 13, 1957, in Lakeland, Florida, to Ella Mae Barnes and Samuel Lee Barnes, Sr.

She grew up and was educated in Sparta, GA and graduated from Hancock County High School in 1977. She later continued her education and obtained a Certificate in Early Childhood Education at Gadsden State Community College.

She was united in holy matrimony to Virgil Hunter, Jr. in March of 1978 in Sparta, GA.

She was baptized and accepted Jesus Christ as her Lord and Savior, and lived a life dedicated to making everyone laugh and sharing the love of Jesus Christ.

Sylvia enjoyed laughter, her yard work, cleaning, being in front of the camera, singing, teaching and studying God's word.

Sylvia loved everyone, church and Jesus! She was a rare soul; within seconds of meeting her, you were instantly greeted with a smile, a laugh, and word about the Lord.

On Wednesday,  November 27, 2024, Sylvia slept away into the master's arms. She was preceded in death by her father, Samuel Lee Barnes Sr.; sister, Roberta Harris; mother-in-law, Irma Lee Hunter; father-in-law, Virgil Hunter, Sr.; step-son, Gregory Dark; brother-in-law, Darell Stephens and many other friends and loved ones.

Sylvia leaves to cherish her memories to her husband of 47 years,  Virgil Hunter, Delta, AL; three children, Sandra Hunter (Edward) Embry, Angela Hunter Cater, Cornelius Hunter; one step-son, Rodney Dark; three grandchildren, Aaliyah Cater, Claudies Embry, Malik Dark; four sisters, Jerry Dean Beckham, Ella Mae (Zebbie) Scott, Christine (Percy) Allen, Lenora Youmans; three brothers, Samuel Lee (Priscilla) Barnes, Jr., Charlie (Mary) Barnes, Kenneth Barnes; three sisters-in-law, Mary Ann Bishop, Angela Zackery, and Nannette Stephens; two brothers-in-law, Terry Stephens and Jeffrey Stephens; a host of nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
