It is with heartfelt sympathy that we announce the passing of Mr. Thomas Lavon Whorton of Gadsden, AL, who transitioned on Friday, May 27, 2022, at the age of 69. We ask that you keep his family and friends in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time. Services will be announced.
Thomas Lavon (Von) Whorton was born on November 19, 1952, in Etowah County, Alabama, to the late Thomas Odell Hill and Minnie Jean Whorton. He was educated in the Attalla City School System, attending Norris High School.
Thomas confessed his faith in Christ and was baptized on August 15, 2018, by Deacon John Bowling. He attended Rainbow City Church of Christ on a regular basis until his illness. He enjoyed attending bible study, church services, and congregational social events. He loved to smile, laugh, and tell jokes.
He was preceded in death by parents, Thomas Hill and Minnie Whorton; his son, Thomas Lavon Whorton Jr; sister, Michella Diana Whorton; grandmother, Annie Cox Wooten; two brothers, Yolando Davarro Davis and Dexter Keith Edwards; special aunt, Mildred Whorton Miller; special Uncle, Freddie Cox; father and mother-in-law, Clyde and Maurine Sosebee.
