With heartfelt sympathy, we announce the earthly transition of Virgil Harris, Jr. of Gadsden who traded mortal for immortality on Saturday, August 13, 2022, at the age of 41. We ask that you keep his family and friends in your prayers.
Virgil Harris, Jr. was born August 21, 1980, in Gadsden, Alabama, to Virgil Harris, Sr. and Elizabeth (Simmons) Harris.
He accepted Christ at an early age and united with 16th Street Baptist Church, where he was active in the youth department and choirs. He particularly loved to glorify the Lord through song and praise.
He attended Gadsden High School, graduating in 1998, and continued his postsecondary education at Auburn University and Jacksonville State University. He also spent some time serving in the United States Marine Corps.
Those who knew Virgil well will remember that he enjoyed singing, and always had a song in his spirit. He was a big fan of the Auburn Tigers and also enjoyed cooking, gardening, taking care of animals, and spending time with his beloved family and friends. He devoted much of his time and energy as a caregiver for his mother until she relocated to Tennessee in 2018.
Virgil's time on this earth ended too soon, and he departed this life on August 13, 2022, while being treated for various medical conditions during an extended stay at Riverview Regional Medical Center.
He was preceded in death by his brother, Walter Rashaud Russell, who passed away in 2016.
Virgil is survived by his parents, Virgil Sr. and Elizabeth, and leaves his legacy to his son, Keoderick Nelms; daughter, Karrington Harris; granddaughter, Ke'Mari Nelms.
