With heartfelt sympathy, we announce the earthly transition of Willie Frank Brown, Gadsden, AL, who tradedtime for eternity on Friday, January 5, 2024, at the age of 91.  We ask that you keep his family, friends, church family & community in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Mr. Willie Frank Brown, Jr., was born on December 7, 1932, in Wetumpka, Alabama to Willie F. Brown, Sr., and Ida Mae Foster Brown.

Willie accepted Christ at an early age and united with the Shiloh Baptist Church.  He attended Carver High School and graduated in 1955. Before graduation, he was drafted into the Army and was stationed in Nuremberg, Germany. He was also in the Korean War for 2 years. His last assignment was in Seoul, South Korea.

Mr. Brown was also a graduate of Gadsden Technical College where he was certified as an Auto Mechanic and at Gadsden State where he was certified in Welding Technology. He also served 150 accreditation hours for State and County Government at Auburn University. He was the first black to become a Shop Foreman for the Etowah County Road Department and retired after 34 years of service. Later, he served 10 years as the Etowah County Commissioner of District 5, in Gadsden, Alabama.

Mr. Brown was an Army Veteran. During this time, he worked in the Infantry, Artillery, and Chemical companies. He was in the Army Reserve, 310th Chemical Company, located at Ft. McClellan, Alabama, and retired in 1994.

Mr. Brown received numerous awards and commendations throughout his lifetime, including being inducted into The Alabama Senior Citizens Hall of Fame for his outstanding service and contributions to the community. The Willie F. Brown Fleet Maintenance Facility was named after him to honor his accomplishments in Etowah County. He served his community, church, and country to the best of his ability.

Mr. Brown served as Chairman of the Deacons and President of the Male Choir at Shiloh Baptist Church. He was a member of Gethsemane Lodge #27, F & AM, member of Khedive Temple #16 (Shriners), United Supreme Council, Grand Inspector General 33, Washington, DC, past member of McMillian Consistory #269; past member of the Elks Lodge #715, I.B.P.O.E. of W., and former President of Local Union #1408 (American Federation of State, County, & Municipal Employees). He served on the Board of Directors of the Gadsden State Community College Alumni Association and the Salvation Army, and has been a member of The Gadsden Chamber of Commerce, The Etowah County Voter's League, the Alabama Democratic Conference, and the Etowah Patriots Association.

There have been several lives that have been touched by Mr. Brown and his generous nature. When you saw him, he always greeted you with a big smile and a long hearty handshake. He lived his life, he loved his life and he enjoyed his life and family. His legacy will live on in his children, grandchildren, and all those to come as we share his great legacy.

Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, Alice Brown; his sisters, Lovely Pearl and Janie Mae; his brother, Robert; granddaughter, Robbyn, and a special friend, Bertha Brown.

He leaves to cherish his loving memories his children, Willie (Ester) Brown, III, Vallery Brown, Timothy (Sharon) Brown, Sheila (Lonnie) Jones, Deverett Hill, and Everett (Sharon Marbry) Hill; 18 grandchildren, 41 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren and a large host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends, that include honorary son, Honorable Craig Ford, special friends, Ms. Willene Wallace, Mr. Perry Guin, Mr. Jonathan Rhodes and numerous friends in the 310th Chemical Company.
