Willie Jackson Obituary

With deepest sympathy, we announce the earthly transition of Willie Jackson of Collinsville, who went from labor to reward on Thursday, October 16, 2025, at the age of 81.  Please keep her family in your thoughts and prayers during this time.

Sister Willie Carnegie Jackson (lovingly known as “Susie”) was born on June 15, 1944 in Dekalb County, Collinsville Alabama, to Edward Lee Carnegie and Hilda Louise Bowyer Carnegie.

Sister Jackson accepted Christ at an early age and joined Pleasant Grove Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Reverend E.H. Rigby.

Susie was educated and graduated from Gregory High School in the class of 1962 as a GHS Marching Tiger Band member. After high school graduation she attended Booker T. Washington Business College in Birmingham, AL.

Susie was united in holy matrimony to the late George Jackson on June 19, 1963 this union was blessed with two children Travis and Tracee Jackson.

Mrs. Jackson's career began in 1965 as a part-time shampoo girl with Neta Beauty Shop while attending McKenzie Business College, she also worked at General Electric as a file clerk in Huntsville, AL. Returning home to Collinsville she landed a job at her Alma Mater, Gregory High School, as secretary.

July 1969, Susie was hired as executive secretary of Community Action Agency. When you visited the CAA office in Rainsville, AL the first person you met was Mrs. Susie Jackson.

Susie’s pleasant personality, her sense of humor, her kindness and her willingness to help others endeared her to all who knew her.
Mrs. Jackson was in many activities that involved the Church and Community. She loved to sew, sing, and make crafts as hobbies.

As a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Sister Jackson sang in the Jr. and Senior Choir, Workshop Choir, was a member of the Red Circle, Matron, Choir President, President of the Missionary Society, I.D. Choir Secretary, Usher Board, Dekalb County Extension Advisory Board Member, Policy Council Member of Head Start, former President of the Collinsville Water Board, and Collinsville City Board Council Member. Throughout her 43 years of dedicated service (1969–2012), she worked faithfully and poured her heart into her community. She especially looked forward to organizing and attending school reunions, cherishing the chance to reconnect with classmates and help others along the way. Sister Jackson had truly and successfully combined marriage, motherhood, and career, while also organizing the Community Cub Scouts and 4-H programs in the area. She was honored as 4-H Volunteer Leader of the Year by Alabama A&M University Extension and named Secretary of the Week by The Times Journal.

Sister Jackson was preceded in death by her husband George E. Jackson; son, Travis T. Jackson; parents, Edward and Hilda L. Carnegie; and her sister, Glenda R. Carnegie.

On Thursday Morning, October 16, 2025 at Gadsden Regional Hospital, the Lord came by and told her “To come with me by yourself to a quiet place and get some rest.” Mark 6:31.
