Mrs. Susie Pearl Green

God granted Susie Pearl Green 102 years to love and serve him, which she did faithfully until January 19, 2019.

Susie Pearl was born and raised in Collinsville, DeKalb County, Alabama. She was born to the parentage of Mammie Moon & Lonnie Appleton on September 1, 1916.

She received her early education in Collinsville and Birmingham, Alabama. Susie attended Miles College in Birmingham, Alabama.

Susie Pearl later moved to Attalla in 1949 after marrying Thomas Henry Green. Susie Pearl became an active and lifelong member of Antioch Goodsell United Methodist Church where she served in the following capacities:

  • Member of the Usher Board

  • Youth Sunday School Teacher

  • Assistant Financial church treasurer

  • President, United Methodist Women(more than 50 years)until the age of 100

  • Member of the former Lodge #26 of the Eastern Star

  • Member of the Communion Board

  • Baptism Assistant to the Pastor and Baptism Secretary

Susie loved her church family especially the children of Antioch Goodsell. She also loved other children in the community and was lovingly called, “Ms. Pearl” or “Aunt Pearl”.

Susie Pearl freely shared her opinion or concern if she thought you “needed to” be corrected. However, she would just as easily share words of praise and encouragement when you needed it, as well. We affectionately called it the “Ministry of Pearl”.

Besides the church, Susie Pearl loved the outdoors. She never saw a flower or plant she didn’t love. She was especially fond of roses, African violets, gardenias and azaleas. Susie Pearl and her husband, Thomas, shared many hours each week in their flower bed. Susie Pearl continued to work her flower beds for many years until she was not physically able.

Once she was no longer able to enjoy the outside work of tending her garden, reading the Bible, watching game shows and working puzzles became her passion.

Susie Pearl was always Fashion savvy. Her favorite colors were beige and brown. She was known for her collection of church hats. She felt a woman should always cover her head in the sanctuary of the church. The only two occasions she entered the church sanctuary without a hat was to serve as an usher or serve Communion.

Susie Pearl is now reunited with her beloved husband, Thomas; mother, Mamie Moon; sister-in-law{adopted daughter),Theresa Green and other close relatives and friends. God has rewarded Susie Pearl with her hat of glory and wings for her passion of family, children and church family…….a job well done thou good and faithful servant.

Susie Pearl had a host of special family and friends, sister, Carol Woods; nieces, Angela Alexander Jackson (Ray), Marcia Alexander-Adams (Renton); great nieces, April Jackson Stewart (Marcus), Alexia Jackson Cromedy (Todd) and Marcisha Adams; great-great nephew, Jaden Alexander Simmons; great-great nieces, Megan and Morgan Stewart; special cousins, Larry Applelton, Doris Bishop, Jeanette Johnson, William McKinney, Doris Goggins and Mildred Morgan; special friends, Lucille Marbury, Mary Cylar, Emma Cylar and Juanita Wilson.
