Curtis Larence Buggs, Jr. was born June 23, 1974 to the union of Dianne Williams Johnson and Curtis Larence Buggs, Sr. in Gadsden, Etowah County, Alabama. As a baby, he was given the nickname ‘Pokey’ by his mother that followed him all the way through life.

‘Pokey’ was loved by all he encountered. He had a smile that would brighten up your day. His smile was so infectious that you couldn’t help but be lifted from whatever may have bothered you. He was full of jokes and laughs that kept you going. He loved to dance and have a good time with those he loved and cared for. He was just a true joy to be around. In later years, he began an interest in kayaking that gave him must joy. What brings us much joy in this moment is knowing "Pokey" gave his life to Christ June of 2019 and joined Building Faith Community Church under the pastorate of Min. Thomas Weaver.

‘Pokey’ was given rest from the toils of this life on Monday, March 9, 2020. He was preceded in death by his father, Roger James Flambo; grandparents, Edward and Flora Lomnick Williams, Mattie Buggs Trammell and Bishop Charlie Wilkes, Sr.

Those left to cherish ‘Pokey’s’ memories are his daughter, Ayana Tarver, Birmingham, AL; granddaughter, Zyana Grant, Birmingham, AL; mother, Dianne Johnson; father, Curtis (Tawania) Buggs, Sr.; sibilings, Kimberly Buggs, Lea (Ryan) Threatt, Bobby Johnson, Jr., Jared Buggs, Curtavius Buggs, Curtwan Buggs, Cayla Buggs; nieces and nephews, Jasmine Johnson, Micah, Nathan and Laila Threatt, all of Gadsden, AL; uncles and aunts, William Buggs, Gadsden, AL, Lola Gray, Birmingham, AL, Johnnie Mae (Eddie) Henderson, Kelley (Mark) Phillips, Sara (Rodney) Houston, Dorothy (Brian) Armstrong, all of Roanoke, AL, Syretta (Ronald) Revels, Jacksonville, FL, Marcel (Earlean) Trammell, Madison, AL, Dionne Hill, Gadsden, AL,  Leon (Bridgett) Trammell, Attalla, AL; several great-aunts and uncles; a host of other relatives and friends.
