Carolyn Ann Tiller Nickson, daughter of Vernon Theodore Tiller Jr. and Evelyn Laura Bell Price Tiller, was born November 20th, 1944 in Centre, Cherokee County, Alabama. Carolyn’s mother passed when she was 7 years old. Her father would then marry Ruth Ransom Tiller who raised Carolyn and her five siblings as her own. She graduated from Hatcher High School in 1962. Throughout Carolyn’s life, her explorative nature, inquisitive mind and thirst for knowledge has led her to various educational and work experiences. She was a licensed cosmetologist and nurse’s assistant. She also worked for Chrysler as a seamstress. She attended Wayne State University. Carolyn married Ron Nickson.

Carolyn Nickson was a woman of many interests and she ventured wherever her spirit led her to go. Her love for poetry led her to become a volunteer at the Paul Laurence Dunbar House in Dayton Ohio. Her love for song inspired her to sing to prisoners and nursing home patients. Her appreciation for law, and more importantly justice, led her to spend countless hours in the reference sections of various libraries helping young mothers at various homeless shelters understand their rights within the system. She was an artist and an activist before it was admirable to be so.

Carolyn was a fervent believer in the word of God. Her most recent church home was Full Gospel A.M.E. Zion Church in Detroit, MI. Carolyn Nickson was preceded in her heavenly transition by her father, Vernon Theodore Tiller, Jr.; mother, Evelyn Laura Bell Tiller; step-mother, Ruth Tiller and brother, Evangelist Larry Wayne Tiller.

Carolyn is survived by her daughter, Chariti Joi Eno Ntuk of Detroit, MI; Four siblings, Gary Tiller (Dorothy) of Turkeytown, AL, June Stockton (Derrick) of Los Angeles, CA, Gloria Tiller of Charlotte, N.C., Harry Tiller Sr. of Atlanta, GA; her step-mom, Costella Tiller (Widow of Theodore Tiller) of Centre, AL; sister-in-law, Barbara J. Tiller, Gadsden, AL; her dear friend Ariel and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Celebratory Graveside Service will be 12 Noon Friday, September 11, 2020 at Howell Cemetery, Centre, Howell's Crossroads, Alabama with Rev. Tommy Price, officiating.
