Obituary

 

            Janie Lee Harris was born on July 13, 1910 in Troy, Alabama.  She was one of fifteen children born to Viola and Henry Harris.  In 1918, she moved with her family to Pennsylvania.  At an early age, she joined the New Philadelphia Baptist Church. 

            In 1939, she moved to Collinsville, Alabama where she met her future husband, Andrew Clay Small.  They were married on July 5, 1940 and she devoted herself to raising their three children and making a home for him until his death on January 31, 1983.

            She was a member of Pleasant Grove Baptist Church where she sang in the choir, and served as Deaconess, Trustee and Mother of the Church.

            On December 17, 1986, she married William Gregory, beginning a relationship which lasted until his death on October 14, 2012.

            She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers and sisters and a devoted daughter-in-law, Wanda Stubbs Small.

            Left to mourn her passing are her three children: Gwendolyn (William) Johnson, Anthony (Natalie) Small and Marvin (Maggie) Small; and ten grandchildren: Chris (Cassandra) Small, Derrick Small, Shawn Small, Candace (Corey) Sanders, Dawn Small, William Anthony (Adrienne) Johnson, Jennifer (David) Patterson, Brian (Harriet) Johnson, Melanie (Terrence) Haley and Mya (Walter) Willis.  She also leaves to cherish her memory fourteen great grandchildren and five great-great grandchildren plus a host of nieces, nephews and friends including a devoted special friend Annie Mae Jones.

Celebration of Life will be 11:00a.m. Thursday, April 17, 2014 at Pleasant Grove Baptist Church, Rev. Herman Kerley, officiating, burial in Anthony Collins Cemetery.
Visitation will be 6-7p.m. Wednesday, April 16, 2014 at the funeral home.

Sympathy to the family. This was a beautiful lady outside and inside as well. She was blessed to have such a wonderful man as Mr. Andrew Small for the years they shared. May they both be joined now in God's Kingdom.
