Mr. Sidney Carter, Jr. passed on Sunday, November 4th. He is survived by his family. Celebration of Life service is Saturday, November 10th at the Ft. Payne City Auditorium, Interment Glenwood Cemetery.

Sidney Carter, Jr. was born December 18, 1941 in Lebanon, Alabama, to the parentage of Sidney and Carrie Malone Carter, Sr.

Sidney received his formal education in the city of his birth. He accepted Christ at an early age at Mt. Lebanon Baptist Church.

Sidney was a very dedicated employee, working as a welder at the steel manufacturer. He gave his employer over 30 years before retiring and spending the rest of his good years telling stories or as he would put it “tellin’ lies”.

Sid, as he was affectionately known to friends, was a serious sports fanatic. He played the game, attended ALL the local games in the community, taught the game and did not miss a game if it was in his control. College sports’ rivalries was normal in the Carter household, especially when it came to Alabama football, Auburn and Tennessee (his sons’ teams), and high school football. Sid was just another one of the coaches coming from his living room or the stands at the high school games.

Football was not his only passion; of course, there’s baseball. Sid was a fan of the Atlanta Braves and he coached the game and played softball up until the age of 60.

It has been said that ‘life is a game-you have to make quick decisions and fight to the end’. So what more do you say about a person who was the patriarch of the family, pillar of community sports, always cheering on his favorite teams and making sure everyone in the family was taken care of in life……”good game, Coach!”

On Sunday, November 4, 2018, Sid passed away in the comfort of his home. He will be joining his family waiting on him in Heaven, his parents; son, Randy Carter; sisters, Roberta Underwood, Martha Ann Williams, Alma Jean Meeks, Janette Carter, Gracie Carter; brothers, Alfred Carter, Columbus Carter and Adolphus Bynum.

Sidney leaves to cherish his loving memory, loving and devoted children, Mavis Carter, Munford, AL, Patrick Carter, Tuscaloosa, AL, Nicholas (Pam) Carter, Fort Payne, AL, Angela Oliver, Huntsville, AL; six grandchildren that he absolutely adored, Trevon McClendon, Da’Kaylen Carter, Da’Marion Carter, Jabrail Oliver, Dewhite Moore, Kahilil Oliver; special nieces, Trudy Rae, Doris Watson, Carrie Underwood, Cassandra Tucker; a number of special nephews, cousins, other relatives, friends and the entire Ft. Payne-Douglas Community which included  all those  dear to him.

I've missed my friend Sid for some time now. I won't forget him. Have known Sid since I was a little boy watching him and his peers play basketball/softball when they were younger. He loved his boys/family and my thoughts are with you guys. I only wish I could have told him bye. ROLL TIDE and I know Sid is still saying it. Love, Ricky C
