Larry Wayne Johnson was the last of ten children born to the union of B.L. and Louise McCoy Johnson in Gadsden, Etowah County, AL.

Larry’s formal education was received in the city of his birth, graduating from Litchfield High School, class of 1983. After High School, he was employed by Bell South and was a devoted employee for many years. He also worked at McEntyre Lumber as a machinist until his injury.

Larry’s favorite place to vacation was Gatlinburg, TN where he would enjoy the scenery and walking around eating at the different restaurants where his favorite meal to order was seafood. His favorite pass time was riding his motorcycle, fishing, hunting and eating out mainly with Jennifer (AKA Knot). He immensely enjoyed  time spent with family and was a joy to be around. His was a kind loving spirit; his smile would light up a room. He had a love for people, never met a stranger, and would do whatever he could for anybody. He didn’t have a problem showing love for his family. Whenever he would leave of end a phone call his closing remarks would always be “I love you”.

Larry had a strong belief in the power of God and knew Him as a healer. He believed with his whole heart that God would heal his body , because God did it before. His prayer was to recover from his illness and have a long life with his children, and other family members. But all believers know man’s pland are not always God’s plan. God saw that he was tired so he put his arms around him and whispered “Come with me”.

Larry departed this life on Friday, April 6, 2019. He was preceded in death by his parents, brother, Laventa Johnson (AKA Big Jim), sister, Mary Louise Fontaine (AKA Tina), brothers-in-law, Herbert Fontaine, Sr., Willie James Chandler, and nephew, Horace Trimble.

He leaves to cherish his memory his loving and devoted daughter, Jennifer Green (Phelon aka Worm); son, Larry Dewayne Green; his long life companion, Vickie Jones and her sons, Christopher Jones (aka Rock), Jory Greene (aka BoBo); seven grandchildren, Jala Green, Jeremiah Frazier, Taylor Farrow, Tyler Green, La’Tahja Green (Pookie), Javier Byers (Head),  Jamayah Daniel (Angel), all of Gadsden, AL; sisters, Betty Chandler (Martin), Gadsden, AL, Joyce (Joseph) Hamlin, Douglasville, GA, Cynthia (Lovelace) Jones, Gadsden, AL, Ladell (Rossalyn) Rhodes, Marietta, Ga,  Alice (Linwood) Johnson,  Clinton, MD; brothers, Rickey Johnson, Gadsden, AL, Marcus (Cynthia) Johnson, Fort Washington, MD; sister-in-law, Denise Johnson, Camp Springs, MD; nieces, Alicia, Cheryl, Tomeko, Alethea, Latasha, Jamay, Chaunta, Shara, Shanika, Keana; nephews, Tracey, Ricky, Jr., Wallace, Derrick, Herbert, Jr., Javon, Lavrenta, Tony, Trumaine and Marcus (aka RAY-Ray)a host of great nieces, nephews, cousins, special friends and his extended family, the Rices.

Grief can be so hard, but our cherished memories help us cope. Hold tight to those memories….Lean on each other for support…. And look to God’s word the Bible, for comfort and strength. James 4:8 encourages; “Draw close to God, and He will draw close to you.”
