Music by The Piano Brothers

Auburn Eugene Horton was born May 29, 1949 in Cherokee County, Alabama to the union of the late Booker Tanner and Hattie Bell Cowser Horton.

Auburn’s formal education was in Cherokee County, graduating from the Cherokee County High School. After high school and some training in trade school, he went on to work at Crompton Cotton Mill until he moved to Pontiac, MI for about 20 years. Eventhough he held several different jobs, he was a carpenter by trade and enjoyed it thoroughly. He was known to many in his family and friends as "Shake".

After returning back to Gadsden, Auburn continued with his passion for carpentry and fishing, but acquired another passion for shelling and sealing pecans. Many started calling him “The Pecan Man’’. The best name and title Auburn had was when he met the ‘Jewel of his life’ and was called Granddad. Being a granddad gave Auburn another chance at life again and brought him so much joy.

After an extended illness, Auburn sleep safely on into the arm of King Jesus on Wednesday, July 3, 2019 at the Gadsden Regional Medical Center. He joins his parents; his sons, Rodney Horton, Anthony Horton and Daryll Mallory.

Auburn leaves to cherish his memory his daughter, Tamala Horton (Montrez), Hokes Bluff, AL; “Jew of his life” granddaughter, Mallory Aaron, Hokes, Bluff, AL; siblings, Anita (Charles) Sanders, Center, AL, James Horton, Ball Play, AL, Onna (Paula) Horton, Pontiac, MI, Carlos Jerome (Tara) Horton, Ball Play, AL; aunts, Florence Weatherly, Ball Play, AL, Janice Green, Detroit, MI, Louise Johnson, Alice Horton, both of Centre, AL, Mary (Henry) Alexander, Ocala, FL; special cousins, Fred Cowser, Pontiac, MI, Malcolm (Donna) Chambers, Ball Play, AL; special friends, Linda Horton, Gadsden, AL, Tommie Green, Attalla, AL, Linda Wyatt, Centre, AL; a host of first cousin like brothers and sisters, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
