Emma Lou Cantrell Hardy was born on December 23, 1951 in Cherokee County, Alabama. She confessed faith in Christ at a early age and was a member of New Life Church and was the mother of the church.

Emma was educated in the Cherokee County School system, graduating from Hatcher High School, class of 1970. She was an avid reader, but also had a thirst for knowledge. She received her Bachelors Degree in Sociology and Social Work  after attending school  Alabama State University, Gadsden State Junior College and Jacksonville State University.  At the time of her death she was working on obtaining a degree in education. She was employed by CED Mental Health and New Life For Women.

Emma was instrumental as one of the founding members of the Gadsden Chapter of The Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Incorporated.

She was preceded in death by her mother, Emogene Southerlin Wyatt; stepfather, Joseph Wyatt; father, Joel Ben Cantrell; son, John Hardy, Jr.; sister, Lafreda Wyatt; brother, Thomas Wyatt; uncle Bryant Southerlin; aunts, Jewel Hall, Jeanette Nix, Edna Southerlin ,Willie Mae Wyatt, Mamie Lee Allen, Martha Johnson; special siblings/cousins: Charlene Covington and Donna Dean.

Emma took her rest from labor on Wednesday, November 13, 2019 at the Gadsden Regional Medical Center, Gadsden, Alabama and boarded the train to Glory.

Emma leaves her most cherished memories to her loving children, Rosolyn Hardy, Regnald (Daisy) Hardy, Brian Hardy; two grandchildren, Nathan Hardy, Noah Hardy; sisters, Jacqueline E. Wyatt, Juanita S. Wyatt, Valarie Wyatt, Caralyn Cammeron; brothers: Tony L. (Ann) Wyatt, Mitchell (Marie) Wyatt, Joel Kenneth (Wannica) Wyatt, Steven (Kathy) Wyatt, Jonathan (Pamela) Wyatt, Gerald Wyatt, Walt S. Wyatt; sister-in-law, Allene Wyatt; aunts, Eunice Moore, Everlyn Cantrell, special children; Kevin and A.J. Gaye; special siblings/cousins: Marcia Kendrick, Constance  Woods, Samuel Wyatt, Bonita Foster, Brenda Cantrell, Lynn Hackett, Bridgett Jackson, Karen Fife, Mattie Ingram, Willie Leach, Delores Wood; special friends, Alice Williams, Cathy Goggins, Frances Wilson, Gwen Weathers, Vanessa Major, Dorothy Robinson, Gwen Stovall and Gaynell White.

Celebration of Life will be 11:00p.m. Saturday, November 23, 2019 at Mt. Zion Baptist Church, East Gadsden, Rev. Z. Andre' Huff, Pastor, Pastor Michael Terrell, officiating. Interment will follow at New Bethel United Methodist Church Cemetery, Ball Play. Visitation and Delta Ceremony with the family will be 6:00p.m.-7:00p.m., Friday, November 22, 2019 at the Etowah Chapel of Adams-Buggs Funeral Service.

I am very sorry for your loss. Ms. Emma was one of the greatest people I knew. She will forever shine in my heart and memories. God bless you family and grant you peace.

I thank God for allowing Emma to be with our family for sixty seven years she was a woman of God, faith and strength and will be missed by our entire Southerlin family. I love you (Frizz) Emma rest in peace. Your cousin Bridgett

I thank you for your faithfulness to the Gospel. I honor you as a friend and sister in Christ. I will never forget all the patience and teaching you gave me from the Word of God. You always walked in Humility and put others first. You loved Hard and worked hard. I can see you throwing many crowns at Jesus' feet and praising God for eternity. I Love you Sister Minister Emma Hardy. Love Sister Weathers.
